The UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition

The UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition is an easy to use, comprehensive drone flight log for professional and serious-hobbyist drone pilots.

The UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition is the latest version of our best-selling logbook series. In this book you can log your personal flight data in an easy-to-use, easy-to-carry format. It is suitable for professional work as well as for advanced hobbyist flying. It is available from Amazon worldwide in hardcover or paperback versions.

This new edition expands, revises and improves upon the earlier UAV Pilot Logbook 2nd Edition, and has been made stronger by the use of a new and superior printing and binding process that helps to ensure that the volume you receive will be in top condition.

In this book you can record even more types of data for each flight, resulting in the most comprehensive record available of your UAV flying experience in a logbook of this size. The interior format has also been re-arranged for greater records clarity and ease of use.

For those who wish to create an aircraft-specific record of use and condition we continue to recommend the companion volume, the UAV Aircraft Logbook, also available through Amazon.

In the UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition you can record flight time for rotary and fixed-wing drone operations, so that even if you fly a variety of aircraft types you will be able to log all of your data in the same book.  For recording lighter-than-air (LTA) flight data we recommend still using the UAV Pilot Logbook 2nd Edition. The book measures 6.14 x 9.21 inches (155.96mm x 233.93mm) and is 198 pages long.

On the inside of the UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition you will find:

    •    An improved and more complete first section for recording aircraft and equipment data; to include identification information for up to 12 different aircraft and their controllers, as well as places to record information about batteries and additional equipment (cameras, etc).

    •    A second section that permits you to record data from 664 flights; specifically: the registrations of the different aircraft in use for each of your flights and their types, the flight locations and times, flight durations, flight functions, numbers of landings and distances flown. New to the third edition, you can also record night flying time.

Additional remarks and data about aircraft condition are now separated from flight data, in order to make recording simpler and more orderly.

As in the second edition volume, this section provides easy-to-use instructions about how to fill out the log, with example pages included. Flight data occupy the even-numbered pages. Notes about the flights (e.g. aircraft condition, battery use history, sensors used and results gained) occupy the odd-numbered pages. Since these face each other when the book is open you see the entire record of a given set of flights at a glance, as in the example below:

  •    The book also has a third section, in which you can log all of your training courses taken and exams passed, as well as places for instructors to sign these off, as required.

The UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition is easy to use, convenient and helpful.

The size remains convenient for carrying, either in your backpack or in any small case you may be using. You are therefore able to record your flight data on the spot, something not so easily done when using the other, large-format, paperback logbooks that are available today.

Additionally, this book avoids the wasted space found in other drone logbooks that, for example, unnecessarily ask you to draw flight plans.

Finally, using a physical, bound logbook has some advantages over using an electronic version because you do not require an internet connection to record your data in the field and the data are not subject to loss by accidental deletion. Electronic logbooks are often considerably more expensive, as well. The physical log is, in fact, the official aviation standard, due to the difficulty of falsifying entries after they have been made. The hardcover version, moreover, is durable and will stand up to years of use both at home and in the field.

New! We do sell digital logbooks now. For those of you who would like to explore that option, click on the black UAV Pilot Logbook Pro Digital Edition cover image in the sidebar of this post. This downloadable logbook has been designed to avoid the expense of many other digital logs. Once it is on your desktop it does not require an internet connection to use, making it almost as flexible as a paper log. To learn more about this new product before buying, go here.

Bottom line:

Using the UAV Pilot Logbook 3rd Edition makes it easy to demonstrate that you are an experienced and properly trained drone pilot who takes a professional approach to your flying operations. Record your UAV flying like a Pro!
